Speech:
Good evening, fellow Toastmasters and distinguished guests. Imagine you’re standing at the foot of a mountain, looking up at its towering peak, wondering how on earth you’ll ever make it to the top. That mountain represents your dreams, your goals, your aspirations. And just like climbing a mountain, achieving your dreams requires a willingness to start small, take calculated steps, and overcome the struggles along the way.
One of my favorite examples of this principle in action is the story of J.K. Rowling. As a struggling single mother living on government benefits, Rowling spent years writing her first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, while battling depression and financial hardship. She faced rejection after rejection from publishers, but she refused to give up. She persisted, taking small steps each day towards her goal until she finally landed a publishing deal. The rest, as they say, is history.
Another great example of starting small and persevering through the struggles is the story of Thomas Edison. When asked about his many failed attempts to invent the lightbulb, Edison famously quipped, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Edison’s persistence and willingness to start small and work his way up eventually led him to one of the greatest inventions in history.
The key to achieving your dreams is to start small and take deliberate, consistent action towards your goal. Each small step builds on the last, and before you know it, you’re making significant progress towards your goal. But that progress doesn’t come without struggles. There will be setbacks, obstacles, and moments of self-doubt. But it’s important to remember that those struggles are not roadblocks, but rather opportunities to grow and learn.
As the late, great Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” So, I urge you all to start small, take calculated steps towards your goals, embrace the struggles, and trust that the dots will connect in your future.
Thank you.
Limerick:
Dreams may seem big, but take heart,
Small steps will give you a start,
With passion and grit,
You’ll achieve bit by bit,
And soon, your dream will be a work of art.
Free Verse:
Start small, take steps with determination,
Every obstacle, a chance for elevation,
With persistence and a heart full of fire,
Your dreams will take you higher and higher.
Haiku:
Dreams take small steps,
With each one, closer to goal,
Persevere and grow.

Good evening, fellow Toastmasters and distinguished guests. Today, I want to share with you a powerful message about achieving your dreams. The world is full of opportunities, but too often we hold ourselves back by believing that our dreams are too big, too lofty, or just too far out of reach. But I’m here to tell you that no dream is ever too big, as long as you’re willing to start small and persevere through the struggles.
We live in a world of instant gratification, where we expect success to come quickly and easily. But the truth is, every great achievement starts with a small step. The world’s greatest innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs didn’t just wake up one day with their success handed to them on a silver platter. They started with a vision, a dream, and took small, deliberate steps towards that dream every day.
Think of Walt Disney, who started drawing cartoons in his garage, or Oprah Winfrey, who rose from poverty to become one of the most influential women in the world. These individuals did not let the enormity of their dreams hold them back. Instead, they embraced the journey, taking small steps towards their goals every day, no matter how difficult the path may have seemed.
But the path to success is not always smooth. We will encounter struggles, setbacks, and obstacles that will make us question whether our dreams are worth pursuing. But it’s important to remember that these struggles are not roadblocks, but rather opportunities to grow and learn. They are the stepping stones that will lead us towards our dreams, if we’re willing to take the leap and keep moving forward.
So, I encourage you all to dream big, but also to start small, take deliberate action towards your goals every day, and persevere through the struggles. As the great musician and composer Ludwig van Beethoven once said, “To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable.” So let us all pursue our dreams with passion, determination, and the willingness to start small, and make them a reality.
Thank you.
Limerick:
Dream big, start small, and pursue,
Every step will bring you closer to,
The goal that you seek,
Don’t be afraid to be meek,
For passion and perseverance will see you through.
Free Verse:
Dreams big as the sky,
But start with a single step,
Embrace the struggles.
Haiku:
Dreams may seem lofty,
But start small, one step at a time,
Embrace the journey.
Third Example:
Speech:
Good evening, Toastmasters and esteemed guests. Today, I want to talk to you about the power of starting small and persevering through struggles on the path to achieving your dreams.
We all have big dreams. Maybe it’s starting your own business, writing a book, or performing on a big stage. And it’s easy to get caught up in the grandeur of those dreams, imagining ourselves at the finish line without considering the hard work and struggles we’ll encounter along the way.
But the truth is, every great achievement starts with a small step. The world’s greatest composers, as the quote suggests, didn’t just sit down at a piano one day and start writing masterpieces. They started with simple melodies, honing their craft through repetition, and eventually, through perseverance and hard work, they achieved greatness.
The same goes for us in our own pursuits. We must allow ourselves the opportunity to start small, to make mistakes, and to learn from them. We must embrace the struggles that come with pursuing our dreams, knowing that they will ultimately make us stronger and more resilient.
It’s easy to get discouraged when we encounter setbacks or roadblocks on the path to our dreams. But it’s important to remember that failure is not a sign of weakness, but rather a necessary step on the path to success. It’s through our failures that we learn the most, and it’s through our struggles that we build the strength and resilience necessary to achieve greatness.
So I encourage you all to dream big, but to also embrace the small steps and struggles that come with pursuing those dreams. It’s through perseverance and hard work that we can achieve anything we set our minds to. And who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll be the ones writing symphonies.
Thank you.

Dream big, but start small they say,
And don’t let struggles get in your way.
The road may be long, But with each little song,
You’ll get there, come what may.
