The first Emmy Awards were given out in 1949 at the Hollywood Athletic Club. Pantomime Quiz Time was selected as the year’s top television show while Shirley Dinsdale and her puppet, Judy Splinters, won for best personality. The Necklace on NBC took the Best Film Made for Television Award.
